bright, hissy
I have a personal database of sound quality grades and listening notes on every GD recording in the archive. This is one of the worst-sounding 1972 soundboards
...
available here. It rates a 1 on my scale of 1-5. In a year full of hissy soundboards this stands out as extremely hissy and the eq is far too bright. I only mention this because ahuhohum called it "decent, not bad and even pretty good" and I disagree so much that I feel compelled to respond. There are a lot of great offerings here on the archive. This isn't one of them. If you want to listen to this show, check out 107885. It's not perfect, but a significant upgrade.

sound guys do their thing (mixing) during Promised Land. Beware, Promised Land, Sugar Magnolia, and Sunshine Daydream are all audience quality recordings. This must be a differenet source than the other copy of this show on the IA. This recording sounds decent, not bad and even pretty good...if not "fine." It doesn't seem to have the same "problems" as the other copy. It's not perfect, but I've heard much worse on the IA...looking from the bottom up, it's fine. Looking from the top down...well, gee, I said it wasn't perfect. Solid 72' performances of some of our favorite DEAD tunes. How often did they perform "Tomorrow Is Forever"? Rehearsed, ready and "hungry", the GRATEFUL DEAD deliver a professional show for the home town crowd. I would have liked to have been at this show. I recommend using your EQ during playback of most of the shows on the IA, this one included. Windows Media Player has a 10 band EQ and SRS WOW effects that enhance the sound. Here's one way to stream/download this show: The IA recommends users of Windows XP view this web-page with RealPlayer. RealPlayer is a free media player you can download at www.realplayer.com. Using RealPlayer to view this webpage, click the VBR M3U link to open the songs in the Playlist. If your Playlist is not open, open it by clicking the Playlist icon at the lower right hand corner of RealPlayer. Once the songs are in the Playlist, double click the song to play it, then click the record button at the lower left hand corner of Realplayer to record it. When the red line reaches the other end click the stop button to download the song. Your song is in the RealPlayer Downloads folder. Repeat these steps for each song. Eat, Drink, Be Merry and Listen to the GRATEFUL DEAD or Bust. Thanks for the LOVE from 1972 PS: It ain't Barry Oakley, it's Berry Oakley...Raymond Berry Oakley III. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Berry_Oakley
